Bonsoir Luna (2015)


Bonsoir Luna is a sung through Irish language musical that tells the story of a romance between the street artist Duke and Luna the blind barista. Luna works in her mother’s cafe in the shopping market where Duke performs as a street artist. Paula disapproves of Duke and his trade, he thinks he can’t look after luna. Duke and Luna have kept their romance a secret, but now Duke must round up his fellow street artist friends to help him win over Paula when she discovers Duke and Luna’s secret relationship.

Donncha wrote the script for Bonsoir Luna and received funding from the Irish Arts Council in 2014. Upon the films release it was soon discovered that it was the first ever Irish Language musical and received a large amount of media attention from the Irish press. The Irish Examiner called it “Mary Poppins meets Once” and Sean Rocks of RTE said “it made Dublin look like a fairytale”. It debuted in the Cannes Film Short Corner and since then it has screened at over a dozen festivals from indiecork to Jecheon international in South Korea.
